I’m convinced that we all have our quirks, and this post will likely prove my point.
There are many “random facts about me” posts on social media, and each time I read them, I find out things that I didn’t know about people I’ve known for a long time. It gives me insight into their personality that I didn’t know, and let’s face it, they’re just plain fun to read.
This is not meant to be a serious blog post, but rather, an introduction. It’s nice to meet you! 😀
And if we haven’t met yet, here are a few things that are not so random. I’m Kayla, the wife of Mr. Mom Devours Books, and mom to three kiddos, Ninja Girl (15), Queen Bee (12), and Book Boy (10). We live in a suburb of Houston, Texas, and you’ll find more about where I’m from below.
I’m a business coach/ blogger and homeschool mom by day, and a reader of books by night.
Here are 20 random facts about me:
I was born in Mississippi, raised mostly in Louisiana, and now live in Texas.
I love the combination of orange and chocolate, much to my family’s dismay. They just don’t understand haha!
I read more books than anyone in my immediate family, though my son may be catching up with me sooner or later. I read an average of 250 books per year.
I am not a cat or dog person, though I have had many over the years. Some of this is because I was bitten by a neighbor’s dog at age 10. My parents had a few farm animals during my childhood, and I would love to own property again one day to have chickens and mini donkeys.
Louise, a blue leopard Catahoula cur, was given to me by a client. She is the last dog I had before getting married. The iris of her right eye was half blue, half brown, something common among Catahoula curs.
I nearly cried when my orthodontist told me that I had to wait even longer to get braces. I thought they were so cool and wanted them for a long time.
I am a second-generation homeschool mom.
I have one sibling, a brother who is 7 years younger.
I love researching genealogy and have taken an Ancestry DNA test.I was able to help one of my DNA matches find his birth parents.

I went to elementary school with Britney Spears. She was a few grades ahead of me. I had no idea that we were sitting in the same lunchroom at the same time every day. 😂 I didn’t realize this until I saw her in my cousin’s yearbook years later, only to look back and find her in mine from Kindergarten. My last year at that school was first grade, but Brittney graduated there.

This was my last cat, Lolly, born in the back of my dad’s pickup truck on March 9, 2003. She had a quirky personality, and she reminded me a lot of myself 😉.
I was a licensed cosmetologist from 2004-2020. I decided not to transfer my license when I moved to Texas.
I have served on one jury, and it was a great experience.
I have long, narrow feet that are often stepped on by other people. Having a narrow size 10-12, depending on the brand, is very hard to find shoes for.
I was drinking coffee (coffee milk) since before I could walk, so says my mother.
I am an introvert and don’t understand how extroverts operate. I am married to an extrovert and managed to birth three of them. I am surrounded! 🤣
I have been sewing and crafting since I was about four years old. This is largely due to my maternal grandmother. She never met a craft project that she didn’t like, and we made many together over the years.
This is my last “family home.” It’s the last place my brother and I lived before I got married. My parents sold it a few years later and have built two houses since.
I am the type of person who has many acquaintances and a few close friends, most since childhood.
I wear shoes all of the time, and can’t stand to go barefoot, unless it’s in grass.
I can’t handle hearing people chew. There is a disorder associated with this (misophonia), and I am totally convinced that I have it.
I almost drowned in a pool around the age of 4 and didn’t learn how to swim until I was a teenager.
